Air transport for the British Royal Family and the UK Government is operated by various military and civilian operators depending on conditions and availability. These include the RAF VIP Voyagers of the Royal Air Force (No. 32 (The Royal) Squadron) and The Queen's Helicopter Flight, which is part of the Royal Family. Civil aviation and established commercial airlines, most notably British Airways, the UK's national carrier, have been used over the years.
Royal Aircraft
The first aircraft specially ordered for the transport of the Royal Family, two Westland Wapitis, were delivered to No 24 Squadron at RAF Northolt in April 1928. Between 1929 and 1935 the Prince of Wales bought thirteen aircraft. Although the RAF maintained at least one of these aircraft for a time, the Prince of Wales eventually became the aircraft's sole carrier. When the Prince ascended the throne as Edward VIII in 1936, The King's Flight was established as the world's first state flight.
The Royal Family
In contrast to the first airplane in which the US President sat in January 1943. This unit initially used King's own de Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide.
In May 1937, the AS.6J Envoy III replaced the Rapide. The Royal Air Force One seats four passengers, including the pilot, radio operator and stewardess. When Airspeed's Neville Shute inquired about the need for a steward on flights of two or three hours, the flight's captain, Wing Commander Fielden, wearily told him that royal people have to endure... from the brilliant people he has. opened a town hall and shook a thousand hands... he immediately fell into a coma of weariness when the door was closed, gray-faced and utterly exhausted.
The outbreak of World War II in 1939 resulted in the Agent III being replaced by the armored Lockheed Hudson. The de Havilland Flamingo was added to the Royal Air Force in September 1940.
In 1942 the Royal Air Force was disbanded and its responsibilities transferred to No. 161 Squadron. no The 161st Squadron was an operational squadron involved in dropping supplies and agents over Europe and spanned the entire war.

The Royal Air Force was reestablished at RAF Benson on 1 May 1946 with one aircraft, the de Havilland Dominie, and soon after four Vickers Viking C.2s.
As the Queen's Airplane since 1952, the unit operates several aircraft for the transport and pilot training of members of the Royal Family including Vickers Viking, Avro York, de Havilland Heron and Devon, Westland Whirlwind, Westland Wessex HCC.4, Douglas. Dakota (for the 1960 Royal visit to Nepal), de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, Beagle Basset and Hawker Siddeley Andover aircraft.

On November 2, 1977, Queen Elizabeth II traveled in Concorde (plane G-BOAE) for the first time. His Majesty flew from Sir Grantley Adams International Airport, Barbados to London Heathrow, England. This event was also the first visit to Barbados by a Concorde aircraft.

The "Alpha Echo" flight on which the Queen traveled was the last Concorde to fly at supersonic speeds to Barbados on November 17, 2003; Delivery flight to the Barbados Concorde Experience Museum where it is on display.
In 1983 the RAF leased two BAe 146 aircraft to assess their suitability to replace the Andovers Flight Queen.
The test was successful and three VIP-configured BAe 146-100s entered service from 1986 with The Queen's Flight (as the BAe 146 CC.2) as the main aircraft. In 2002, one of these 146 BAe was sold as a surplus. Also known as the BAe 146 Statesman, these aircraft feature a specially designed Royal Suite cabin. Although the civilian BAe 146-100 has 70-94 seats, the two BAe 146 CC.2 are comfortably configured for 19 and 26 passengers respectively.

) of the cabin space. The 6ft 6in ceiling height allows for comfortable standing, and the aircraft's size and protective gear makes this the aircraft of choice for domestic or European travel.
On April 1, 1995, Queen's Aircraft merged with No. 32 Squadron RAF to No. 32 (The Royal) Squadron. His BAe 146 and two Westland Wessex HCC.4 helicopters were transferred from Benson to 32 Squadron's base at RAF Northolt. This ended the RAF's provision of dedicated VIP transport aircraft. The 32nd Squadron aircraft is intended for VIP passengers only when not required for military operations. This was formally announced in 1999, with the Department of Defense stating: “The primary purpose of 32 Squadron [is] to provide communications and logistical support for military operations; Squadron strength should be based solely on military needs; and any other royal or non-royal. The military use of... backup energy is secondary to its military purpose.”
This announcement has the effect of reducing the cost per hour on the Royal Travel Allowance for travel on an RAF aircraft, as only the cost of changing the aircraft is now invested in the Royal Travel Budget.

The army offers air travel for members of the royal family and high-ranking politicians. However, on 1 April 2010 the hourly rate for trips by The Queen and The Prince of Wales increased significantly from £1,138 for BAe 125 and £1,846 for BAe 146 to £9,997 and £13,086 respectively.
No travel will be undertaken as part of these programs. Following an appeal by the Prince of Wales, the fares were reduced on 1 December 2010 (BAe 125: £4,000 and BAe 146: £5,000 per flight hour).
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall flew to Madrid and Lisbon in March 2011 on BAe 146 (4 flight hours) and a non-member aircraft was taken over on BAe 125 (1 flight hour).
Other RAF aircraft have carried members of the royal family and ministers, particularly on long-haul flights for which the Queen's Aircraft and Royal Squadron are not suited. These usually included Vickers VC10 C.1s, XR807s and XV106s of the now defunct No. 10 Squadron - later joined by No. 101 Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton.

Occasionally, the Concorde supersonic aircraft is used to transport the Prime Minister and Royal Family, particularly to international conferences abroad. Queen Elizabeth II's first supersonic flight was witnessed on November 2, 1977, at the end of her Silver Jubilee.
In November 2015 it was announced that the government would be fitting a Royal Air Force Airbus Voyager A332 aircraft with VIP seating to transport the Prime Minister, government officials and members of the Royal Family.
The Voyager will cost £10m to repair and maintain, which should result in savings of £775,000 a year on the cost of Downing Street flights as charter flights will no longer be required. The new system is expected to cost around £2,000 per hour of flight, as opposed to £6,700 for a long-haul licence. The upgrade includes a secure satellite communications system, missile detection and 158 passenger seats. The aircraft will sustain Royal Air Force life and continue its primary fuel operations when not in government use.
Proposals to provide a new VIP transport aircraft for royal or royalty use were first published in 1998.

In March 2009, however, the latest of these £7m 12-seater aircraft proposals was shelved by the recession. The Government has decided that the Queen and Royal Family will continue to fly on the 32nd Squadron aircraft over the next year to help offset the cost of new aircraft during the economic downturn.
The 2015 Defense and Security Review also announced that current Air Transport Support aircraft would be replaced when they reached end of life to increase their serviceability and ensure efficient transport for the Royal Family and the Prime Minister
Most air travel by ministers and junior ministers is on scheduled flights. Travel on 32 Squadron aircraft is recommended when it is more cost-effective than using commercial aviation or when safety considerations dictate the use of specialty aircraft.
On Friday 8th July 2016, a newly converted RAF Voyager A330 (registration ZZ336) made its UK debut to transport Government Ministers from London Heathrow Airport to the 2016 NATO Summit in Warsaw, Poland. This new passenger aircraft was configured for 158 seats but retained its primary role as an airship. The plane will also be used by The Queen and members of the Royal Family for official visits abroad. The introduction of this new aircraft will eliminate the need for the government to contract airlines.
